Elon University Football Player Demitri Allison Plunges to Death
A college
football player died after falling from a 10-story campus residence hall,
authorities said.
Elon
University wide receiver Demitri Allison was found outside the building at the
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Smith
Jackson, vice president for student life at Elon, said in a statement that
Allison “had left the Elon campus yesterday and his teammates, friends and
family asked police to look for him because they were concerned for his well-being
and emotional state.”
His college
said there would be a “gathering of friends” Thursday, “for all who wish to
share their feelings of loss and reflect on fond memories and special moments
with Demitri.”
Elon’s
Athletics Director Dave Blank added: “Demitri was a talented young man with a
bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we
pray for his family and loved ones.”
Allison, who
was from Cornelius, North Carolina, became an integral part of the college’s
Elon Phoenix football team last season, finishing second on the team with 55
catches for 525 yards and two touchdowns, according to Bleacher Report.
